Sciatic nerve floss for pain relief
Sciatica pain that shoots down the leg can feel overwhelming—but sometimes relief starts with understanding how your nerves move. In this weeks video, Dr. Robin breaks down a gentle concept that may help calm irritation and support better mobility.
If you’ve ever felt a deep ache in the buttock that travels down the back of your leg—sometimes with numbness or tingling—you know how disruptive sciatica can be. Sitting, standing, driving, even sleeping can suddenly feel like a challenge.
One gentle approach that’s often helpful is called nerve flossing. In this video Dr. Robin demonstrates two ways to get the sciatic nerve moving better through the tissues of your low back and hip:
Seated: Start by tucking your toes under the chair and looking up at the ceiling. Then straighten the leg, bring the toes up, and look at the feet.
Lying on your back: It is helpful to use a strap or a tie. Lying on your back with knees bent, wrap the tie around the affected leg. Start by straightening the leg, lift it off the ground, bring your toes up, and maybe even lift your head up tucking your chin.
Try to repeat either method at least 10x, and maybe even a few times per day for a subtle easing off of your symptoms.
If sciatica has been slowing you down, this may be a small but meaningful step toward feeling more comfortable and confident in your movement again. Watch the video, listen to your body, and we are also here to help from the treatment side.
